How can a community-based online library promote literacy and facilitate easier access to reading materials for Indonesian children?
outcome
Successfully delivered a design prototype by conducting a literature review, case study analysis, and research question development. The design was validated with experts in children's literature, ensuring its relevance and effectiveness.
The meaning behind the name
A fusion of "kisi" (grid) and "cerita" (story) in Indonesian, it represents a grid of stories, emphasizing the structured and interconnected nature of the platform. This name reflects the project’s mission to create an organized, community-based online library that promotes reading and education, making stories accessible for everyone.
Regional gaps in Indonesia's literacy infrastructure
Indonesia's national literacy goals face challenges, especially in regions like Papua, where literacy activity remains low. While two regions have achieved "High" literacy activity, most provinces are in the "Medium" range. Limited access to libraries—currently meeting only 43.61% of institutional needs—and a shortage of learning materials, with a 67.97% gap, create barriers to progress.
The National Alibaca Index also highlights issues, with the Access Dimension scoring the lowest at 23.09. Improving these areas is key to building a stronger reading culture and supporting student learning.
